Letters from the Old Domini

Stop the refugees, see that They are Vetted  ??

My first love was this wonderful woman. Oh, I didn’t know what love was. I was only a little child, maybe just a toddler.  The most joyous words I would hear my parents say, ”we’re going over to Grandmother’s house. Love, eh, all I knew I was greeted, hugged, kissed (ekk), spoiled (I did not know what that meant either, but so enjoyed it.) was fed and so many wonderful things. I was eleven years old when she died. I experienced my first broken heart. I was so sad I wept for days until finally my Dad told me to be quiet. I quietly still weep in my heart.

I later learned that this beautiful human being came to Ellis Island as young sixteen year old Orphan, alone, frightened and unsure of what the future held   for her. The thought of this frightened wonderful, Caroline ( That was her name) would be met by imposing, uniformed, gun carrying authorities to be VETTED, to make sure she was not a terrorist, sends such horror chills up my spine.

Remember the Emigrants that came in groups? There were English, Welsh, Irish, Germans, Italians, Oh yeah, the Italians, have you seen the latest episode of the “Godfather?” There were some Mafia who came with these beautiful people.  Let’s stop them, make sure they are vetted. What a tragedy that would have been. Stop our wonderful, charismatic, musical, loving, talented (I love their Pasta) neighbors. That too sends chills up my spine.

We have now another opportunity to welcome a group of protective parents, beautiful children, persons with many artistic, professional productive skills, hard-working, responsible, caring, loving people into our world. “Let 10,000 of them come, indeed.” Don’t miss the opportunity to welcome as many that will come.
