Bernie Sanders 2016 & Samuel Jones Tilman 1876

A MOMENT IN HISTORY!!

In 1860 the party of Lincoln took over the White House under the platform of "Abolish slavery, unify the UNION, and Government of the people, by the people, for the people".

In 1876 Rutherford B. Hayes, Ohio, ran against Samuel Jones Tilden, New York. Tilden won the majority votes, but alas, he did not have enough Electoral College votes to get elected. He lost by one electoral vote! Time for the poison of political expediency.

Shades of Florida, and cheap politicians
to step in and void the will of the people.  READ YOUR HISTORY! Hayes emerged victor. Occupation of the Southern States, reconstruction stopped, "Jim Crow" TOOK OVER THE SOUTH. Sorry Lincoln. Those who gave their last full measure to abolish slavery died in vain. Cheap politicians saw to that.

Why do I bring this up now? The same thing is about to be repeated. The Rutherford  Hayes of the Democratic Party is William Clinton and what happened to the Reconstruction program of the Republican Party is happening, has happened to the Democratic Party. The New Dealers got replaced by CENTRISTS, (I call them Generic Democrats.)

David M. Kennedy, in his book entitled, “Freedom from Fear,” covering 1929 to end of World War II, said of F.D.R., “He is the first President who saw that the role of Government as the servant of the people.”

No Wonder FDR's rich compatriarchs said he betrayed HIS CLASS. “The government exists for the bankers,” said ex-senator Spencer Bachus. The last thing our very rich and powerful leaders want is to give the Government back to the people. They are the TRADITIONALISTS suggesting to you how to vote.

There are rare times in history when an
Abe Lincoln, F. D. R., comes along.  The last thing the Traditionalists want is the death of their golden horn, (finance reform),loss of control, (To the People), looking glass into their shenanigans, (right of people to see what is happening).

A new class of Democrats have risen. They call themselves Centrists. (I call them generic Democrats.) Enter NAFTA, exit the Glass Steagall act. Turn welfare over to the States, ( Welfare reform), taking millions of people off welfare. That is why I say Bill Clinton is the Hayes of the Democratic Party. He is a smart, clever politician. But does he use his expertise for the welfare of the people, or to further his own ambitions?(In this case Hillary’s benefit).

I sincerely believe that the moment of a Lincoln, Roosevelt, has arrived. That is the candidacy of Bernie Sanders. He is a STATESMAN. The four qualities of a Statesman are: 1. A bedrock  of principles, 2. A Moral Compass, 3. A vision, 4. Ability to build an enthusiastic following.

Perhaps the best example of a politician I can give you is in the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah. (You don’t think this Old Preacher is going to ignore the Good Book in this dissertation?) Jeremiah talks of the false prophets "who say the things the people want to hear.” The more successful the politician, the more talented they are in pleasing the people.

By now I suspect you discovered the truth. I am an Old Domini, I.E. preacher, a WW II veteran, once a printers’ devil, active labor leader, craftsman (Linotype Operator, ad man, ‘make-up printed newspaper pages,’) Chaplain of ambulance squad, two volunteer Fire Departments, and finally Chaplain in the Veterans Administration, ministering to the needs of our wonderful veterans.

Also, I am married twice, (Lost first wife to cancer.), father of five children, lost two sons, one at birth, other a young man, to AIDS.

M-a-a-ybe I know something. Not as much as all those political analysts who make big sums for their political expertise. In fact I am poorer than Bernie. It doesn’t matter, I love what I am doing.

And by the way I will very soon be 90. Bernie almost could be my son! And if he was I would be a glowing with pride father. In fact I  may not be around much longer. It may be my last chance to see a true statesman assume the role of leadership of my wonderful United States of America.

Please!!! Do not lose this opportunity to elect a true Statesman who will restore our nation to a government for all the people. Elect Bernie to the Office of President of this great nation.

Thank you for your patience,
                Chaplain Robert A. Jones

The bitter 1876 contest between Ohio Republican Governor Rutherford B. Hayes and New York Democratic Governor Samuel Tilden was the most sensational and corrupt presidential election in American history. It was also, in many ways, the final battle of the Civil War. Although Tilden received some 265,000 more popular votes than his opponent, and needed only one more electoral vote for victory, contested returns in three southern states still under Republican-controlled Reconstruction governments ultimately led to Hayes's being declared the winner after four tense months of brazen political intrigue and threats of violence that brought armed troops into the streets of the nation's capital.
In this major work of popular history and scholarship, Roy Morris, Jr., takes readers to Philadelphia in America's centennial year, where millions celebrated the nation's industrial might and democratic ideals; to the nation's heartland, where Republicans re-fought the Civil War by waging a cynical "bloody shirt" campaign to tar the Democrats as the party of disunion and rebellion; and finally into the smoke-filled back rooms of Washington, D.C., where the will of the people was thwarted and the newly won rights of four million former slaves were ignored, leading to nearly ninety years of legalized segregation in the South.
